Just a test post with the comments turned on to see how much comment spam I'm getting these days. I forget if I've done anything specific to fight the spam.
Just upgraded the MoveableType system to 3.31 from 2.661. I notice they are including spam plugins by default now so I'm going to turn on commenting and see if things are better.
Yay! The weekly archives, which are what the right hand link to archives takes you to have now been styled. I think that finishes the application of style to my website. I think I'll add archives by title as well to help ease the search for old posts. I also need to look into reviving all my old redfive.ws blog entries and stuff. Not sure how to go about doing that but I imagine it's something like 1)dump the database to a text file 2) import textfile into new install. Of course it probably isn't quite that easy, especially since I think I hosed my MT installation on my redfive.ws server, and it's an older version anyway.
Phew, straightened out the styling and page designs for the new look. All the links on the navbar now exist and are styled. They don't all have lots of content yet, but that will come. Just have the individual archive templates and the master's classwork portions of the site to convert to the new style.
Now to get back to actually working on my project!
Well, I decided to go ahead and start rolling out the new design. For those of you who saw one of my old designs this looks pretty familiar. If you are an IE user the nav bar on the right probably doesn't render correctly, but it works in mozilla and firefox and I believe in safari too, so too bad. Not all of the site is redone in this pattern and I'm sure there are even more serious problems, like broken links, but I'll be getting to all that in the days to come. The biggest headache is going to be re-doing all the archive posts. Ugh.
First of all I need to get a ToDo/Task List started. Maybe a "Coming Attractions" sort of area. First on that list needs to be the completion of the redesign and updating of all the hosting software and stuff. I'd love to have comments again and apparently there are some simple ways to incorporate them without getting spammed to hell.
I guess I'll start on that and figure out what else I need when that's all cleaned up. I'm sure there is something about js I need and maybe some cool code that tells everyone what is playing in my winamp player right now. :-)
I'm starting to merge the files in (and needed another days entry to make sure the MT template gets made correctly).
Oy, I've been working on a redesign for this site today. It's taken me so long to finally get to a color scheme and layou I like. And it's just for the main page!! I have to figure out how I'm going to layout the other pages next: archives, galleries, etc!!!
But I'm glad to be back online and working on this stuff.
Well, it looks like I have lost my old domain, which blows because everyone has that url and noone will know about this one. I'd like to re-register it, but is it really worth the money? I don't think so. 25 bucks just so people can know the old site is dead? I can just move the content over since it is all on my own server. OR better yet use the gaunt.ws domain that got auto-renewed as the domain and point to it from here for all the old content.
Here is the new site. I'll be posting here now instead of at redfive.ws, I doubt I'll be moving any content, but as I look through my old posts, maybe.
Now comes the lengthy design phase of having a new website. :-\
